One Night Only -- Rail Past Last Call
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Tonight’s the night if you want to hit up a Hollywood club and have subway service back after last call. Metro’s doing a system-wide service enhancement for tonight’s Mexico - Venezuela match at the Rose Bowl. If you’re attending I guess that’s good to know, but even if you’re not you can take advantage of the expanded hours and get a taste of what Metro rail service hours should be like.
Tonight, May 5th, the last Red Line train leaves North Hollywood for Union Station at 2:34am.
The last Gold Line train leaves Sierra Madre for Union Station at 1:11am. Latest of the lines, though not entirely relevant to Downtown, is the Green Line which runs its last train from Norwalk to Redondo Beach at an almost morning 3:10am.

It is good to know the MTA is doing this. This type of surge activity to support big events should be more commonplace. Quite often I’ve heard people say they’d love to take public transit to such and such an event. BUT, the system isn’t available when the event ends. It also very important that integrated marketing programs support these efforts to drive up use.
Hopefully, Metrolink will support these activities, too. There should be supplemental trains supporting all kinds of public events at major venues. Many times I’ve seen fans take Metrolink to Angel Stadium. But, they’ve told me they have to hitch a ride back with someone else to get home. A good idea would be to use the event ticket as fare to board MTA trains and buses. With Metrolink, there should be an option when you buy your event tickets to purchase special Metrolink tickets.
Riding on the Metrolink today, this very item was announced over the subway car speaker as 5 additional runs.
Also, I took the train in to Hollywood to see “Los Angeles Plays Itself” last week. Thom Anderson, the filmmaker spoke afterwards, and stated “The only way to get to know a city and it’s people is to walk or take public transportation.” Doing just that made that particular film more enjoyable.
