Times Gets Sloppy With Farm Figures
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The LA Times runs an article today talking about the ongoing legal battle between developer Ralph Horowitz and the South Central Farm people. Included, though, is one sloppy bit about dollar figures:
The city in 1994 forced Horowitz to sell it the land, which it wanted for a trash-incineration facility, paying him $13.3 million. In 2003, after the plans for the facility fell through, it sold the property back to Horowitz for $5.1 million.
The City in fact purchased the land from Horowitz for $4.8 million. They later sold it to the Harbor Department for $13mil, and that’s when the real legal issues between Horowitz and the City started. They did eventually sell it back to him for $5mil. I’m not a fan of citing Wikipedia, but I’ll cite the farm’s entry there and this City Beat article as my sources here.
