Weekend Food Notes

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — A couple of food notes from the weekend: Friday evening Kathy and I went and ate at the new Weilands Underground. We were there around 9pm and got prompt service and great food. As I had assumed there wasn’t any sort of a crowd there, maybe 6 or 8 other people. Our waitress, though, said that they’re holding off on any publicity (including their grand opening) until they give the kitchen enough time to work out the kinks. She said the lunch crowd is very healthy.
Walking by Wolfgang Puck Express on Saturday I was surprised to see them closed. The door read “Sunday: closed” but next to Saturday was a big blank. Did they have Saturday hours and get rid of them already, or am I incorrect in thinking they were ever open then?
On the flip side, I was very glad to see that the new Subway in the Library Court building is open 11-11 seven days a week. With all the Subway locations Downtown you would think there would be some sense of coherence in their hours. There’s not.
Comments
Wolfgang Puck’s has been inconsistent with their Saturday hours. Their sign used to say they were open starting in the morning. But the one time I tried to go on a Saturday (about an hour after their posted opening time), they weren’t open, although the lights were on and they had employees inside.
