Welcome Arda's to Saturdays by Eating Free Food
Downtown has a million great eating options during the week, but finding food gets progressively harder as the week turns to Saturday and then Sunday. As the residents continue to come to Downtown, it stands to reason that more of these spots can be convinced to add to their hours.
Tomorrow marks a step in that direction as Arda’s Cafe (on 6th between Olive and Hill) marks its first Saturday hours by giving away free waffles and coffee from 9 to 11:30am.
With Angelique’s Sunday hours and now Arda’s adding Saturday, next on my list would be getting the Yorkshire Grill (who knew they had a website?) to add some weekend hours.

yay! yay! yay!
Get Koo-Koo Roo on Bunker Hill to open on Sundays. Excellent food, for what it is, particularly compared to the rest of the franchise.
This is what I love about living downtown - having a front seat to the rebirth of a neighborhood. I remember when I first moved in to my loft two years ago, that I panicked because I’m a Coffee Bean junkie and the hours for the stores on 7th and on 5th were so limited on weekends. They have slowly expanded their hours, making it more convenient. Groundworks has also expanded beyond the Artist’s District to the Higgins - are they open on weekends? I haven’t stopped by yet.
Watching other restaurants like Arda’s (fantastic lunch food) is really exciting, and it makes it more and more fun to stay local, take a walk and not get in the car.
gorundworks is open all weekend at the Higgins. I wish the Yorky would open on the weekends or Blue Cube for that matter.
David: I’ve never bought into the Koo Koo Roo here since they weren’t one of the locations bought up by Fuddruckers. When I go to the Koo Koo Roo next to the Tar Pits or the one in Studio City it’s for ostrich burger. The ones Downtown don’t offer me that.
To add to this, Mitaki & Green Leaf, under Library Court, are now open for dinner on the weekdays. Hopefully the weekends follow soon….
Gr8 news! My usual weekend run starts with Angelique in the early morning, then I get over to Lost Souls and lunch at Blossom (closed Sundays) or a salad at Petes… we are getting more good dinner options as well, places other than the businessman hangouts along Fig… like Royal Claytons and the Little Tokyo stuff. Had dinner at J-Lounge last night - nice, pricy, but I’ll go there again.
Waiting for Tiara Cafe to open at least for Saturday b/l…
I went this morning to Arda’s with my daughter (after her class at Colburn). The place was very busy, lots of people, some enjoying the freebies, but lots of people also buying stuff. Overall, I’d say it was a successful promotion.
BTW, maybe I’m blind, but I didn’t see waffles on their menu. So it’s odd that their promotion was free waffles!
Wow, what a carb and caffine fix that was!
Thank you for the tip Eric.
Joel: Kathy asked them about that. They said they’re probably going to be adding waffles to the breakfast menu. They were definitely good.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the coffee shop at the Standard Hotel is open 24 hours. It is about the same price as Angelique but not quite as tasty it is a good alternative when you get tired of the same things on Sunday. Plus the service is good which I hate to say but that was a nice welcome change. It was my first time this Sunday I will be coming back. Plus it was fun and trendy and they were auditioning for the next season of runway so that was fun to see the new generation designers and their fashions.
Just walked passed Loose Leaf, they have weekday dinner hours until 9pm. May not satisfy the late night owls but it’s a start.
