The Pegasus is currently seeking liquor licenses for a pair of restaurants on its southwest corner, as the pictured posting can attest. The two would take the space formerly occupied by the Eastern Columbia sales center, with one 139 seat restaurant on Flower and another 130 seat space on Wilshire. Thanks to the site’s geography the two would actually sit one on top of the other, while still having street level entry.

If you click in to view the posting at a larger size you’ll notice that this is a “Corrected Public Hearing Notice.” The first notice, posted a week or two ago, made mention of second floor semi-private karaoke rooms above an existing restaurant. I’m pretty sure someone managed to just slip the wrong posting into the wrong notice, but trying to open a karaoke club Downtown would certainly be a twist on what we’re currently seeing.

So many new retail/restaurant openings planned for the financial district. It’s exciting, but why does retail take forever in this city? That Volcano restaurant on 7th Street has been making sluggish progress this whole year.

I believe you mean Wokano. They had the doors open today and construction seems to be progressing well after not starting for quite a while.

The big thing that slows up bars and restaurants in LA is that the CUP process can take a year (or more). That’s a huge chunk of time where no one’s making any money, and presents a big disincentive for landlords to sign a deal. DCBID is doing some important work to try and bring that process back to a sane timeframe.
