DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Tomorrow will be the ribbon cutting and then after 7 years of waiting and hoping, the long awaited Ralphs is open for business.
The 50,000 square foot store is stocked and ready. Last minute prep work from the kitchen went on this afternoon for the VIP party about to start.
Grab a new basket and take a sneak peek inside Downtown’s new grocery store. More can be seen at Ralphs Preview
Added Note: On Friday, LADOT’s DASH C line begin route changes to add stops at Ralphs. On Saturday, the weekend DD (Downtown Discovery) line will do the same.

Is the peak in the title a pun joke type thing I’m missing, or is it just a typo? (peek’s spelled correctly in the post itself, so the peak with an a in the title seems somehow purposeful –)
Did you not see the rock climbing wall on the aisle chart?
Or perhaps it was just a typo.
My God…it’s beautiful…so, so beautiful…what’s that? No, I am not crying. Maybe a little. My God, that perfect pyramid of nectarines…
“Mercer tears clean-up, produce.”
It’s a “corporate statement of belief in the Downtown Dream”. Or urban gentrification run amok, depending on your point of view. Will there be security guards in the parking lot? Perhaps valet parking? Will the ‘residents’ of the area be welcome? Hmph!
I’m starting to get a little worried – it doesn’t look like plastic lawn furniture, picnic coolers or pool toys for sale on top of those freezer cases!
There were security guards present today. No valet parking.
Yet.
Every Ralphs has security.
A grocery store is “urban gentrification run amok”? I love the idea of sustaining squalor. I’m sure any “residents” will be welcome if they are there to buy food or whatever else people normally do at a Ralphs.
Scott you aren’t the only ones in tears. I am very happy. Instead of getting taken by these corner markets with nothing but processed food items , I will be able to hit the new Ralph’s , buy the prepared foods, bring them home and store them and build a good menu around them and finally really start getting this diabetes under control. With the other illnesses I have that make me tired , I get so tired sometimes I don’t cook for myself. So this way , I can get some good exercise , walk to ralphs , walk home , and store my food and make healthy meals a part of my life.
Thank you . All of you who brought us the new Ralph’s. The angel at Angelus Plaza .It is a godsend. That means you Hal Bastian and Carol Shatz and the people who didn’t mind working hard to make the residential renaissances happen and that means me too at all of the zoning hearings and the city hall meetings supporting the 38% density bonus for housing around transit corridors and making sure after learning that all of those people who want to eat their cake and eat it too are mistaken when it comes to affordable housing , let the market do it’s thing , facilitate the construction of infill housing where it is supposed to be and the market will take care of the supply and demand when the housing market cools.
Thinking longterm is what has brought about our downtown. We all have to work it together.
Wohoo, no more driving to Whole Foods in Glendale. Lets all meet at the apples!
Anyone who believes that is welcome to move to the nirvana of the Midwest, where urban de-gentrification has run amok, Detroit!
that’s funny - blogdowntners weeping together by the apples in solidarity
what aisle are the tissues in?
Speaking of DASH, I hope they start considering extending C so there can be a direct route from South Park to Bunker Hill. It’d be nice to connect the yuppies to their offices so they can keep their cars in the garage.
Press conference with the mayor is at 11 and the ribbon cutting’s at 11:30, fyi.
great pictures Ed. wondering though when Dave will HDR the new Ralphs… :)
Good to hear about the DASH reroute. Hope Street makes the most sense as its central to the South Park development (until LA Live is completed).

I am studying the aisle map.
