Concerto Crane Going Up

The initial base for the crane at Concerto went in recently, and today crews are installing the rest of the pieces. The first signs of reawakening at the long-stalled project showed up three weeks ago, and that same week's issue of the Downtown News said that Astani had locked down new financing and was ready to go.

Behind Concerto you can see the still-wrapped Hanover building at 717 Olympic. Less than a year ago I was commenting on the pace at which the parking pedestal was going up, now the entire building rises above.

On the near side of 9th, out of view in this shot, Meruelo's project at 717 W. 9th continues to make its way upward.

Here's a question for those who might have more time for research than I do... When was the last time that LA had three 25+ story buildings going up in a roughly 1.5 block stretch? A rough calculation shows that a straight line from the south side of Hanover to the north end of 717 W. 9th would run only 900 feet. Have three 25+ story buildings ever gone up in LA at the same time and that close together?

If you had ventured to the corner of Fig and Olympic you would have thought a bomb went off. There is construction on every corner. Jackhammers, trenches, hot asphalt and construction crews make the intersection almost impassable.

I like the expansion, I don't like the way they are going about it.

^I don't mind temporary inconvenience during construction. All in the name of progress.

Since Concerto will have two towers (staggered in phases, but should mostly rise together), is it safe to say four 25+ story towers will be u/c within a 1.5 block radius?

Pinch me... am I dreaming? Our new Ralph's is amazing. I've been here for 13 years and have always had to go to Pasadena or stop while I am out for groceries.

It's becoming more and more "Sex in the City"...

Off topic, but I'd like to interject that the mysterious Raspado Express has opened at 7th and Spring.
