Nighttime Downtown
I spent three hours or so riding around Downtown tonight with my tripod strapped across my back. I love taking Downtown shots at night, and tonight was no exception. I ended up doing nine miles, covering South Park to Lincoln Heights.
Oddest sighting of the night didn’t result in a photo. Coming by the car wash at Olympic and Figueroa there was a guy doing karate moves while jumping between a couple of gas vents that come up out of the sidewalk. Two BID security guards rode up to talk to him as I came by.

These came out fantastically! Were you perchance taking photos at the west end of the tunnel under Bunker Hill (at 2nd and Fig) around 1:45am? I was on my way home from the Standard and saw someone using a tripod to take photos in the middle of the tunnel. At the time I thought, “Wow, what a great photo that’ll make.” Considering I read your site pretty much daily, it would be an odd coincidence if you were indeed the photographer!
If seeing a guy doing karate kicks at night was the oddest thing you saw, then you were out on a slow night.
Nick: Nope, I was in a touch after midnight. I didn’t take any tunnel shots yesterday, but I did take a couple I was really happy with back in March.
Mike: A guy doing karate kicks while jumping between these two-foot talls posts on the sidewalk. It was a much better thing to see that it was in my description.
