DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
Since September of 2006, many of us have watched Downtown Los Angeles change in it’s 225th year as a city. Many of those changes were around Main street and have been covered here and elsewhere.
That same month, I invited photographers and this blog to be part of a photo exhibit. From that came an idea to hold another show in September, again at Lost Souls Cafe.
Something bigger is being added. As part of an art project sponsored by the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council, Russell Brown and Dale Youngman offered the Regent to hold a digital mural that uses photography to tell the story of Main street in this year of transition. It will line the top of the Regent Theatre at 50 ft long by 7ft high.
This is where the blogger and blog reader community comes in. Use the comments to post your thoughts on what was significant this year in Downtown, or what Downtown means to you. Your input will help shape the finished piece, (hopefully) to be unveiled by the next Downtown Art Walk.
Jump in, even if you’ve never commented before. Consider it a birthday card for a city.
DLANC is working on the fabrication and installation costs, so they are for the most part covered. We are open to donations to cover studio costs, and taking part financially allows you to have your name placed at the bottom of the finished piece if you desire. Anyone who wish to sponsor should email ed@blogdowntown.com for information.

I’ve enjoyed following your downtown updates for some time. Though I’m a Silver Laker, I’m downtown most days to go to the gym. For the past several months, I’ve been doing a photo project focusing on found typography and found design. There’s a whole section of Downtown LA found type (as well as several downtown shots in the Found Design LA Architectural and Found Design LA Observed). There are many photos on Main, if you scroll down past the Broadway shots.
