DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — While the County’s Christmas Tree lighting was last week, the City’s fifty-foot tall tree at City Hall gets its lighting ceremony on December 6th. The event starts up at 4:30pm, with the lighting scheduled for 6pm.
Festivities are being hosted by Project Restore, a city-conceived nonprofit responsible for preserving the city’s municipal buildings. RSVP is requested by December 4th, and can be done by emailing bpw.prestore@lacity.org. I tend to suspect that those who don’t put themselves on the list will be able to join in the festivities with no problem, but run the risk of missing out on the pre-lighting refreshments.
There’s no mention in the notice of whether this will also mark the lighting of City Hall itself.
Comments
I caught a glimpse on TV last night of the generally most well-known Christmas tree in America, the one at Rockefeller Center. Not only did that tree seem somewhat blah because its new lighting system reportedly is more “green” and energy efficient (and looked somewhat dimmer than in the past), but it has never been adorned with ornaments. That’s why it seemed even more bland when I saw a predecessor to it personally in New York several years ago, its lights washed out in the daytime sun. So because the people at City Hall took the extra step to decorate their tree, it actually fares better, at least during the day.
Eric, if you have a chance, check out the lighting done at the Watercourt of California Plaza. Best decorations I’ve seen in the city.
I sent an email to RSVP address and it failed-

Anyone else having problems? I guess I’ll just show up…
Hmmm… Here’s the line from the invite:
“TO RSVP PLEASE CALL 213-978-0269 or e-mail bpw.prestore@lacity.org”
I think just showing up will work fine.
the website lists the address as prestore@bpw.lacity.org – but that also bounces.
Try:
bpwprestore@lacity.org
No return – yet…
