Downtowners decorating the tree on Christmas Eve may want to take a break and walk over to the Music Center to see at least part of the L.A. County Holiday Celebration. It’s the 48th edition of the show, bringing six hours of choirs, music ensembles, and dance companies to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Richard Montoya and Herbert Siguenza of Culture Clash are slated to host.

The show, which runs from 3pm to 9pm on the 24th, is free of charge and that low price even includes parking underneath the Music Center. The whole event is a gift from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and is produced by the County Arts Commission.

While there will also be a live broadcast on KCET (and later an edited version with highlights), this holiday tradition deserves a visit. If you are giving those out of town relatives a tour of Downtown, stop by for a set or two (you can come and go throughout the six hour show).

After the jump, the full program schedule.

This sounds like a really cool thing.. I have seen/heard the Mariachi Divas perform previously (in part) and they’re fantastic. While I’m not sure if we can stay as late as that, I know that either myself and possibly SeanYoda too may be taking a walk up that way tomorrow, (it’s a regular workday for him so he’s not sure when he’ll get up that way). It sounds like a good reason to get out and celebrate the holidays though. =) There’s just so many great performances on the schedule it’d be a shame not to check it out. Seems like there is a little something for everyone.

Merry Christmas to Eric, Ed, Dave & everyone at BlogDowntown! =)
