Little Toyko's Weller Court will soon be lit with new signage. Seen here is the first of two signs being installed for the shopping center that sits along the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens. This corner -- the confluence of East 2nd, San Pedro and Onizuka streets -- has a great sightline of City Hall, and the new signage compliments the Shinkichi Tajiri sculpture "The Friendship Knot."

While the new addition may not be as exciting as the change last summer, when filming for the Will Smith film "John Hancock" transformed the corner into a "circuitronics" store, you have to like the simplicity of the new design.

Thats great it will give it some name recognition. That way tourists or everyday locals can be aware of what that building is. And wow it seems like it was just yesterday that John Hancock was filming there. Like the saying goes-hay mas tiempo que vida, there is more time than life.

I noticed today the smaller sign below is now filled in with details about what is actually in the retail area. 'Tis bout time. Historically, too many of these retail establishments sealed themselves off from the street. The presumption was people would be entering and leaving via the parking garage. Small details like this invite in people from the street proper. Even if the invitiation is declined the first time. The seed of curiosity is planted for a visit. It is good to see this change happening on the part of the owner of the property.
