The joint between upper 2nd's extension and Grand Avenue, seen here nearly complete.

Work on the connection between upper 2nd street and Grand Avenue is nearing an August completion.

Westbound 2nd street enters its tunnel at Hill street, traveling under Bunker Hill to Figueroa. The upper spur of 2nd had previously connected Hill street to Olive, but will continue up to Grand Avenue after completion.

A separate stretch of 2nd connects Grand to Hope street, and will be connected to the new work.

The new block of 2nd will be used for one of The Grand’s garage entrances.

While work on the roadway just kicked off earlier this year, the sidewalk adjoining the Colburn School was completed last fall. The school’s 326,000 square foot expansion required the sidewalk as an exit path.

The new intersection of 2nd and Grand should also have crosswalks on all 4 sides. The previous intersection had a crosswalk only on the south side of 2nd.

Thanks for this info. I’d been wondering about the construction for a while. I wonder if the city will bring the lights from General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Street to First Street into the modern age? The wait for pedestrian green lights are some of the longest I’ve ever experienced. Which city department deals with this kind of issue?
