It’s Thursday, June 26th, and the end of the week is a very quiet one around City Hall. Here are a few things on the agenda that Downtowners should care about, plus a couple bonus mentions.

THURSDAY: Today’s only Council meeting is an special session for the Ad Hoc Committee on Gang Violence & Youth Development. No Downtown items on the agenda.

FRIDAY: Friday’s only session is a meeting of the City Council. The Dodger shuttle item that went through committee yesterday makes it to the full body for discussion and approval.

Just a little south, item 25 on the agenda deals with approving $200,000 in additional funds for New Image Shelter. The shelter’s facility in South Los Angeles houses 600 individuals, and is often the choice offered to those that the Skid Row Neighborhood Walk tries to get off the streets.

Over at the Board of Public Works, there’s a request to close Grand avenue from 5th to 6th streets on Monday, June 30th. The closure would run from 9pm until 3am.

Since the Council schedule’s so light, here are two events around Downtown worth mentioning:

Today at 12:30pm, James Rojas of Gallery 727 presents a lunchtime talk on his interactive model of Downtown. It’ll be held at 7+Fig’s art space, located on the second level of the shopping center.

Then at 6pm, Patina Group kicks off their series of Locals’ Night promotions with a time to meet and mingle at Zucca. Complimentary appetizers from 6 - 7pm. The event runs until 10pm.
