Downtown’s National Night Out has grown from a 2006 below-the-radar Skid Row weenie roast to summer street parties that engage neighborhoods. Last year, LAPD looked for some back up from the Arts District and the 2007 version became a block party with that attracted over 2,500 people throughout the night.

Little Tokyo is another neighborhood that knows how to throw a street party and it appears the festival got bigger. Multiple stages will feature rock, world music, jazz, traditional Japanese dance and performances by LATC and the Company of Angels, and the Downtown Comedy Club. The scheduled bands include the Bonedaddys, Vicky Lafoya, the Big Beat, according to some late news, a surprise Japanese band is expected to attend.

At 8pm, LAPD will escort a bicycle tour of Downtown and riders are being asked to register at 7pm. For those who want to stay, there will be plenty of food and drink, some karate and fighting exhibitions, along with the entertainment.

National Night Out, hosted by LAPD and the Downtown Community / 1st Street, between San Pedro and Alameda (Little Tokyo)/ Tuesday, August 5th / 6pm to 10pm
