Around the August Art Walk: The Movement Continues
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Through time, the purpose of art changes. Each era of society responds to a type of creative expression that suits its need.
The Art Walk’s exhibitions reflects what Downtown currently is: a mix of low and high; performance and observer; traditional and digital; grit and elegance.
If Downtown’s growth is pictured as a series of installations, a symbolic moment will be seen at the next Art Walk. The anticipated café named after the infamous moniker “The Nickel” will be opened by then. Call it romantic-urbanism.
For now, here are some scenes from the August Downtown Art Walk.

A small space off 5th was the Comedy Walk's "The Onion Room" and not as comfortable as LATC. Still, comedian Keith Healy worked the crowd, later staring at the steel doors under harsh lighting to quip "I feel like I'm in a waiting room for the DMV."

Ummm what is an artwalk, i’ve been in Los Angeles and Never heard of it
It’s a gathering where people WALK around the streets and look at ART.
The big deal is that all these galleries (Downtown) are usually not open during the evenings, so this is one evening a month when they are. Some of the people in charge decided to promote it and make a big “event” out of it.
It’s been going a couple years, but recently it seems to have caught on and gotten really big, with additional things sprouting up like the bus tour, an adjacent comedy event, and restaurants offering specials for the large crowd. There are now thousands of attendeees wandering around the ten square block area each month. First Thursday of the month, or maybe second Thursday? I forget.
Second Thursday of every month:

We walked the streets the other night with our dog and was impressed with the number of people out and about. This is a GREAT event and one will be partake in next month without Carter.
Not only an amazing event for those who work and live downtown, but a true reason for people to come into the city for a night.
Oh my god - Celia is pimping out Wonton for nude modeling? What is the neighborhood coming to??? :-)
