A Birthday Weekend for the City of Los Angeles

A sparse crowd welcomed the contingent of Labor Day walkers reenacting the Pobladores original journey from San Gabriel Mission to El Pueblo de Los Angeles. Booths from different non-profits were set up, while the seats in front of the stage were mostly filled by tired walkers, many dressed in clothing of the era.

A spontaneous moment happened when CD4 Councilmember Tom LaBonge had the youngest children present come up and help cut the cake celebrating the 227th birthday of Los Angeles. Four children ran out from the seated crowd giving the event a representative mix of L.A's diversity. Not that the three girls and one boy wanted to send a message about Los Angeles culture or history. They just wanted some cake.

Leo Politi would have been proud.
