Barren Square Preps for Ice Rink
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Pershing Square has never been a paradise of greenery, but the park looks a little extra empty at present. The grass has been killed, intentionally, to make way for the upcoming ice rink, arriving in mid-November.
Why kill the grass? Otherwise it dies and rots underneath the rink, which leads to bugs and unpleasant odors. Killing it in advance doesn’t look great, but it seems better than that alternative.
The ice rink, an annual feature, runs from mid-November to mid-January.

it’s too bad that they can’t figure out a way to place the rink in the parts of the park that are already paved over. maybe when that magical redesign happens because of park fifth, they can do a little planning ahead.
Regards Park Fifth, the market has changed! There is now a whole lot of product available in downtown with more slated to come via The Grand and projects underway in South Park, not to mention foreclosed units.
Perhaps Houk and company should consider revamping their plan to include a mix of hotel and commercial similar to properties surrounding San Francisco’s Union Square, as well as orientation towards the Redline station. Make the square and adjacent properties a point of destination..!
76 stories of uber-modernismo doesn’t, is no longer workable.
I believe park fifth’s smaller tower is a hotel?
