It's Wednesday, November 5, and even as the country lets election results sink in, it's time to get back to the business of local government. Transportation committee is holding a special Thursday meeting, and will be talking Downtown DASH, both daytime and nighttime.

THURSDAY: Transportation committee is holding a special meeting Thursday afternoon. On the agenda are two items that we've mentioned in stories on the site.

Item 3 is CF 08-1858, a Greuel / Perry motion asking about the possibility of extending nighttime hours on Downtown DASH. As we reported three weeks ago, a working group has put together a proposal for two evening routes, but the program find private funds in order to happen. In this economy, that's a tall order.

Item 6 is CF 08-2968, the Downtown DASH contract that starts in 2009. We highlighted the contract last Friday, noting that it would bring new route management capabilities to DASH.

FRIDAY: Council's in session. Item 12 is CF 08-2968, the Downtown DASH contract that'll have just come from committee.

Ever wondered why Around the Halls looks at Monday through Wednesday and not the whole week at a time? City Council typically posts meeting agendas 72 hours in advance, in accordance with the Brown Act. That means that at the beginning of the week we can only see what's coming three days down the road. Perhaps coincidentally, most committee meetings fall in the beginning of the week, so there's often little to report for Thursday and Friday that would be worthy of a follow-up.
