Today is Monday, November 10, and a City Council recess means that it's going to be a quiet week around the halls. The halls won't be empty, though. Here are a handful of Downtown items going through this week.

MONDAY: The Board of Public Works meets at 9:30am in the Public Works room. On the agenda is are change orders for all three of the consultant contracts on the 6th street viaduct project. CH2M HILL adds $154,868 to bring the firm's contract on the project to $2,050,123. David Evans and Associates adds $207,000 to $2,950,000, and Moffatt and Nichol adds $287,905 to $3,300,000.

Later in the day, the same room will be the site of a Broadway property owners meeting, where Council District 14 and Bringing Back Broadway Executive Director Jessica Wethington McLean will update owners on what that effort has accomplished to date and what it means for their properties.

THURSDAY: A Conditional Use Permit hearing for Barry Shy's proposed club and restaurant at 650 S. Spring will be held at 2:30pm in City Hall room 1020. Shy is proposing a 40,000 square foot restaurant and bar with seating for 336.

Saturday, November 15 a large protest is being held at city halls across America in opposition to Prop 8 and in support of equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans.

Our own protest here in LA will include a huge rally at the steps of City Hall.

Sorry if this comment is out of context for this post.

Not out of context at all...

Semi-related: Event planners would do well to realize that despite its popularity, not everyone has a Facebook account and using it for your event info on there limits your readership. I've run into that several times.
