What to Do on the DASH This Weekend

The lights of Downtown, including the County's Christmas tree at the Music Center, are on the list for this weekend's DASH todos.

It's week four for the Late Night DASH Holiday pilot. You have just seven more nights to make use of the privately-funded service. No block parties or new bars this week, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot going on.

For those who don't remember, the Late Night DASH Holiday Pilot is a six-week program to bring nighttime transportation to Downtown. It's a free shuttle connecting L.A. Live, the Historic Core and the Music Center to the 7th / Metro Red Line station. Both the DASH and the Red Line are running until 3am.

And get ready for next week: On Friday, December 19, we're doing a blogdowntown bar hop, making full use of the Late Night DASH. Clear your calendar.

TREES: With December well underway, it's a good time to check out the trees. The City's tree is on City Hall's Spring street steps (exit at 1st / Spring), while the County's tree is up on the Music Center plaza (get off the bus at 1st / Hope). Down the way, L.A. Live's "Light of the Angels" gives a less real take on the tree (Figuera / Olympic stop), while there's a much smaller tree outside the 7-Eleven at 7th and Olive.

SKATING: There's a chill in the air, so perhaps it won't feel so odd to be skating under the sky in Los Angeles. Pershing Square's "Downtown on Ice" runs until 10pm on both Friday and Saturday night. The park's right next to the DASH stop at 6th and Olive. Tonight, Upground provides Latin ska music at 8pm.

RESTAURANTS: The DASH makes a stop at 9th and Main, a spot heavy on food but a little out of the way. Tiara Cafe, Wood Spoon and L'Angolo Cafe all offer dining options worth a special thought.

If you're taking the DASH downtown on Dec. 19th, join me from 7-10pm for my solo exhibition at Switch Gallery -- large scale installations and stop motion films about construction and fragmentary perspectives of the world at large.. Hop in and say hello before hopping out to the next downtown bar >
