Unique Los Angeles

‘Tis the season for giving. This weekend “UNIQUE Los Angeles” hosts a shopping event to nab all your holiday gifts with over 165 local and independent designers featuring their goods for sale.

“UNIQUE” calls on Angelenos to ditch the mall and support locally crafted gifts—we’ll toast to that.

Sonja Rasula, who grew up in Echo Park, is the founder of the community-based affair.

“The idea is to show that local art and design have value to them,” Rasula says.

Think of it as an extreme alternative to the $5 tees you find in Santee Alley. The designs are American-made and created by indie biggies from L.A. to New York. Expect sweet street-wear from the likes of Johnny Cupcake, pretty eco-conscious water bottles from Earthlust, swinging vintage-inspired frocks from Ric Rac Clothing, fanciful stationary created by Rock Paper Scissor and tons more independent labels.

The big sale, which takes place at California Market Center, is not just about spending all your scrilla. 50% of the ticket sales will go to benefit Create Now, a Downtown-based charity that brings art and creative activities to at-risk youth.

Unique Los Angeles / California Market Center, Penthouse / 110 E. 9th / Sat. & Sun. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. / $5 per ticket.
