Cathy Thomer's paper boat sailed so fast it created a wake early in its run. It's time of just over 29 seconds was half that of the second place craft.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Thursday afternoon the eyes of the paper yacht building world were focused on City National Plaza, site of the 2nd Annual Psomas Paper Yacht Challenge. The event, which this year raised money for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, brought a healthy crowd of onlookers and displayed the rich diversity found in paper boat-making ideas.
Cathy Thomer's craft smoked the competition, finishing the fountain course in just over 29 seconds. The next best competitor took over twice that time. The executive assistant from Thomas Properties Group told Curbed LA of her extensive background research. "I looked at some web sites and I also collaborated with some people in the office," she said.
Boats were limited to a maximum twelve inches in length and six inches in width. Paper used was required to be 20 lb. bond weight or under.
