DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The line-up at L.A. Live moves one step closer to completion on Monday, as Katsuya opens its 230-seat restaurant on Nokia Plaza. The location is the fourth for the combined team of nightlife entrepreneur Sam Nazarian, master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi and designer Philippe Starck.
The space boasts Starck's trademark white interior, with a center sushi bar and blown-up geisha eyes and lips on the walls. The restaurant will seat 180 inside, with 50 seats on the patio.
Testing meals have been going on this week, and a new staff already had their act together on day two. One employee said the team had just come out of "sushi boot camp."
At least for now, the restaurant will be dinner-only, open 5 - 11pm Sunday through Thursday and 4pm - midnight Friday and Saturday. While Monday is the official opening, the impatient may be able to find their way into a table as early as tonight.
While bookings aren't yet live, reservations will be available online via OpenTable.
Katsuya's opening leaves Rosa Mexicano as the lone remaining opening in the L.A. Live complex, though details have not been announced for what will be housed inside the neighboring hotel tower.
