Standard / Quicksilver Vending Machine

Downtown hotel The Standard has partnered with swimwear maker Quicksilver to roll out a new swimwear line, and starting August 8 the board shorts and bikinis will even be available through a vending machine next to the hotel's rooftop pool.

The pair is reissuing four Quicksilver designs from the 70s and 80s -- one per Standard location -- with some special touches added in. The Quicksilver logo even gets a Standard-esque flip, appearing on the swimwear upside down.

Downtowners will get red and white polka dots on a black background.

Each design also features addresses of "must-see destinations." For Downtown, the list features Ooga Booga at 943 N. Broadway, Farmlab at 1745 N. Spring (though Standard materials call it Farmland), Telic Arts Exchange at 972B N. Chung King Rd, MOCA Grand Ave. at 250 S. Grand, REDCAT at 631 W. 2nd and The Smell at 247 S. Main.

More info on the project can be found on The Standard's website and via a press release on the project.

Along with the vending machine launch, Quiksilver in conjunction with Will Pennartz of The Surf Gallery and Stefan Jeremias, co-producer of “Echo Beach” the film, will curate an art show at the Downtown Standard. It will run from August 8-14, with a special reception featuring live music acts on Thursday, August 13th from 7-10pm.
