Today is Monday, August 10, and items continue to work their way through the process as City Council prepares for its summer recess. On the agendas this week are special event funding, Broadway design, streetcar funding and a declaration of Dragnet Day.

MONDAY: Public Safety committee and Budget and Finance committee meet.

At Public Safety, Fire Department funding should be the hot topic of the day. CF 09-1804 and CF 09-0600-S12 are both on the agenda, and deal with staffing at fire stations.

At Budget and Finance, item 5 is CF 09-0600-S120, a report on the effort to study whether Los Angeles should sell off various parking resources to a private entity. The report from the CAO's office says that more money is needed for the study, and requests that $70,000 - $130,000 be added to its existing $500,000 allocation.

Item 10 is CF 09-0600-S46, a Special Events Permit Procedure and Fee Subsidy Program. Council has been debating how to craft a program that would provide some consistency to special events and to how waivers are handed out.

TUESDAY: Council's in session, as are two committees.

At Council, item 12 is CF 09-1884, some zoning changes related to the Broadway Design Overlay.

Item 33 is CF 09-0633, a motion that would extend the benefits of the city's Entertainment and Multimedia Tax Incentive to Downtown. Presently, firms headquartered in Hollywood and North Hollywood receive tax breaks.

Item 39 is CF 09-1935, a LaBonge motion declaring Tuesday, August 11, as Dragnet Day, in honor of the 1960s television show about LAPD.

WEDNESDAY: Council's in session, with four committees meeting.

At Housing, Community and Economic Development, CF 09-1794 is a $400,000 CRA grant to LA Streetcar, Inc. The money is intended for use in the development of the assessment district that will eventually fund part of the streetcar's operation and construction.

At Council, item 1 is CF 08-0644, a fee for hotels that wish to appeal their designation as residential. The item has been contested by hotels who feel they were given this designation in error after the Housing department sent confusing letters and failed to answer phone calls.

Item 39 is CF 09-1845, the change in the live/work designation intended to give buyers access to FHA-backed loans. Wednesday's motion directs the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance change, so it will still be a few weeks before the rules are officially changed.

At Transportation committee, CF 09-1953 is an ordinance update that would add $2 to all parking violation fines.
