Skidrow Street Ballers compete on top of the L.A. Live Event Deck during the Lakers 3 on 3 tournament.

Several thousand players, families and fans made their way to L.A. Live this morning for the inaugural Lakers 3 on 3 tournament. Nearly 500 teams signed up, with games taking place on more than 30 courts set up on Nokia Plaza, Chick Hearn Court and the L.A. Live Event Deck.

It's a strong first showing for an event that has great potential to become an annual Downtown draw. Organizers and Downtown boosters should both be salivating at the idea of a tournament that approaches the Spokane Hoopfest, which this year drew 6400 teams to the state of Washington.

Play continues all day Sunday, and Downtowners would do well to wander over and check out the energy around the complex.

this was such a great event...i was there practically the whole day...there were musical/dance/acrobatic performances all throughout...the celebrity sightings were great, free drinks from Coke,Vitamin Water,Mc Donalds etc....shopping at the Nike tent and just all around energy...and of course, watching basketbaal.

Yes, great event. Very festive. Didn't realize there were courts set up on the event deck; would have been nice to look down Chick Hearn Court from up there.

I wonder how many people attending the basketball event were aware of the Barney's sale or the Philippine-American Expo, both held at the convention center?

Overall, a very nice place to spend the day with all 3 events happening at the same time.
