Main Street Lights

Main street's getting some new streetlights, but they are hardly a new design. A crew was hard at work this morning installing UM 1906 lights at the corner of 5th and Main, replacing lights of the same twin-lantern design that have stood along the street for decades.

Hope Street Sidewalk Reopened

After 15 months closed due to construction of a parking garage for Market Lofts, the west side of Hope street is once again open to pedestrians. While the barricades installed never entirely stemmed the tide of walking traffic, the closure had provided an obstacle to those making their way to Ralphs or walking north from Market Lofts.

Expect hay to fly this Saturday as the human-powered contraptions in Red Bull's Soapbox Race take on Downtown's Grand Avenue hill. The Christopher Nolan-helmed feature "Inception" returns tomorrow for its second weekend filming on Downtown streets. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the film is described as a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." The shoot is a big one, involving street closures, lots of rain and even a train wreck.
